What makes this different from other apps?
First, it’s designed just for the Apple Watch, and it runs completely on the watch. Most other apps were designed for the phone, with the watch as an afterthought. Lots of watch apps just show the distance to the center of the green. Caddieapp shows the full hole map, and lets you measure the distance to any point. And it uses your watch’s GPS instead of your phone’s. That means the distances are more accurate, since they’re measured from the exact place you’re standing.
Second, it was created with the “keep it simple” principle in mind. Unlike other apps that clutter the screen with every feature imaginable, we keep it to the ones you’ll actually use. Our goal is to help you stay focused on playing well and enjoying the day instead of fighting with technology.
What types of golfers is it designed for?
It’s for casual golfers who can benefit from having maps and distances easily available, instead of just guessing. It’s also for people who like the convenience of having that information right on their wrist, instead of having to carry a (distracting) phone or a (bulky) rangefinder. That pretty much describes us. We’ve designed Caddieapp for ourselves, and the many golfers like us.
How is it different from a golf watch?
When compared to inexpensive golf watches, Caddieapp has some big advantages. It not only provides distances, but also color maps to show what’s ahead. It also lets you measure distances to any point, not just to the center of the green.
What it doesn’t have are advanced features like elevation compensation, green contours, and detailed statistics, which are found in some expensive golf watches. If you need those capabilities, a high-end golf watch may be the better choice for you.
Since Caddieapp works on the watch you already own, it can save you hundreds over buying a dedicated golf watch. And it eliminates the need to have to charge (and remember to bring) an extra device every time you play.
How is it different from a rangefinder?
Unlike rangefinders, Caddieapp is always with you, and it isn’t bulky to carry around. It doesn’t require line-of-sight to measure a distance, so you can get yardage over hills and around corners. It also provides maps and scoring, in addition to distances.
Some rangefinders adjust distances for elevation, which Caddieapp does not currently do. If that’s a feature you need then a rangefinder may still be helpful.
Which Apple Watches will it work on?
It will work on the Apple Watch Series 4 and greater, and all versions of the Apple Watch Ultra. It also requires that you have Watch OS 9 or later installed. If you need help figuring out what model you have how to upgrade Watch OS, just let us know.
Does it work with all Apple Watch sizes?
Yes, it’s designed for all Apple Watch sizes. We regularly test each size to ensure compatibility. Just keep in mind, it needs to be an Apple Watch Series 4 or newer, or the Apple Watch Ultra. If you have one of the smaller screens (40mm & 41mm), you might have to scroll a bit more, but rest assured, it works great.
Does it work on the iPhone?
No. Caddieapp has been designed specifically for watches.
Will it work on an Android Watch?
Not currently, but we’re considering it if there’s enough interest. If you’d like to see it on Android watches, please let us know.
How much does it cost?
Sticking with the “keep it simple” theme, it’s a one-time purchase of just $99, with no subscription or add-on fees. If you get a new Apple Watch, you can use it on that for no additional charge. If we add features, you’ll get them automatically with no additional charge. $99 is all you’ll ever pay.
You can try it free for 15-days, with no credit card required. If after that you decide to buy it, you’ll still be protected by our 90-day money back guarantee. If you’re unhappy for any reason, contact us within 90-days of your purchase for a quick, easy refund.
Why isn’t it on the public App Store?
Direct sales through our website let us work with golf courses and other partners, and to offer them commissions. That isn’t feasible when selling through the App Store. Caddieapp still goes through Apple’s App Review process, and you technically download it through the App Store. But you’ll use a special link to install it instead of having to find and download it in the App Store app.
What if it doesn’t work on my watch or I don’t like it?
We want Caddieapp to help you play better golf and have more fun while you play. You can try it free for 15-days, with no credit card required. If after that you decide to buy it, you’ll still be protected by our 90-day money back guarantee. If you’re unhappy for any reason, contact us within 90-days of your purchase for a quick, easy refund.
Can I keep score for multiple people?
Yes, you can keep score for up to 5 people right on your wrist. And you can easily view the scorecard and totals for everyone as you play. See our help page for a video that shows how to keep score.
Does it track detailed stats?
To help maintain a focus on simplicity, it just does maps, distances and scorekeeping. It doesn’t track fairways hit, sand shots, putts, etc. If these kinds of stats are a must-have for you, please let us know. If we hear from enough users requesting the same types of things, we’ll find a way to add them (while still keeping things simple).
Will it have my courses?
It currently has over 10,000 courses. That’s many, but not all of them. If it’s missing a course, we’ll quickly add it for you. Usually within a day or two. We’re a small team, and it takes us 1-2 hours to add a course. So, please only request courses that you plan to play soon. See our help page for a video that explains how to request a course.
Will it track my fitness?
Yes, it works with Apple Fitness to automatically track a workout while you play. The workout starts when you tap the “Play” button and ends when you tap the “Finish Round” button. The workout will appear in your Fitness app with duration, calories burned, and heart rate, and will count towards closing your rings.
How much of my battery will it use?
That depends on the size and age of your watch. Larger watches have larger batteries, and newer watches have longer-lasting batteries. Efficient battery use was a focus as we developed the app. Except in extreme cases, you should be able to play 18 holes and still have enough power to get through the rest of your day. The way we’re able to save power comes from using the GPS only when you need a distance. The tradeoff is that it can sometimes take a few seconds to get a distance. If you find that you have plenty of battery available, there’s an option to use more power and get distances faster. See the Settings video on our help page for details.
